bio
Expressive, abstract figurative artist Penny Chivers Stanley is based in Wiltshire. Working in mixed media, Penny uses conversation, reading and observations as a base to create figures which are often imaginary. Penny achieved a BA in Education and Art at Reading University, and went on to create art courses for teachers, ran murals and workshops with children and fostered a love of the creative arts in many children as well as painting privately.
More recently, Penny’s work has further developed through a focus on strength and vulnerability, as she devoted more time to her own practice. Further studies at Newlyn School of Art and an MA in Fine Art at Falmouth University resulted in larger scale work and the recent VOWVAS project, exploring women’s relationships with their bodies, including film and photography, as well as drawing and painting.
